After spending much of 2010 traveling through India, designer Arati Rao established Tantuvi, while reconnecting with her ancestral roots and cultivating a relationship with India's hand-loom textile traditions. Tantuvi works with 7th generation dhurrie weavers of North India for their flat weave rugs and Ikat weavers in South India for their textiles, reinterpreting traditional patterns and weaves of the region. Their line of rugs launched in 2016; a collaboration between artist Adam Sipe and designer Arati Rao, the debut collection was inspired by early experiments in formal abstract animation. Tantuvi, which translates to weaver in Sanskrit, is committed to supporting weavers who continue to pass down their trade.
